Washi
A thin paper of long fibres, 52 g/m². Hold it to the window and you see the fibres. Write on it and the ink shows on the back.

Your browser has 3D turned off (for example Lockdown Mode). This is what the desk looks like.
The paper
Washi is light enough to fold into an envelope twice and still post for the price of a letter. The fibres are long and visible, laid in every direction.
Ink runs along those fibres and through the sheet. The line looks soft on the front and leaves a quiet shadow on the back. Write on one side only, or enjoy the ghost.
It suits fine nibs and shading inks. Moss on Washi looks like a pressed leaf.
Good with: EF and F nibs. Moss, Sepia, Gall Black.
Our inks on Washi

- Ember
Warm and translucent. The gold stays on the front.
- Moss
Soft shading, and a green shadow on the back of the sheet.
- Sepia
Light and warm, with a brown shadow on the back.

Drying, compared
| Paper | Dry to the touch | Spread | Show-through |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rag | about 4 s | The line spreads about 15% past the nib | None |
| Glaze | about 10 s | Crisp — the line stays at nib width | None |
| Washi | about 2 s | The line spreads about 6% past the nib | Shows on the back |
Wider nibs and wetter inks take longer everywhere. Gall Black keeps darkening long after it is dry.
